Sachin Tendulkar Donates Rs 50 Lakh To Fight Coronavirus Pandemic

Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar on Friday donated Rs 50 lakh to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has been spreading like a wild fire across the globe and the cases are rising steadily in India too although the country has managed to keep the situation under control so far.

So far, there have been more than 500 positive cases in India while more than a dozen people have succumbed to the deadly pandemic. Eminent personalities from around the country are coming forward with monetary help and Sachin Tendulkar has also joined the bandwagon.

The former India batsman’s donation is so far the biggest contribution among India’s leading sportspersons. The latest action has further increased Sachin Tendulkar’s charity activities. In the past, the batting maestro was associated with a number of charity work.

“Sachin Tendulkar decided to contribute Rs 25 lakh each to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in his bid to join the fight against COVID-19. It was his decision that he wanted to contribute to both funds,” a source was quoted as saying by PTI.

The Indian cricket fraternity has come forward to help the needy people during these testing times. Before Sachin Tendulkar, the likes of Sourav Ganguly, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan and Pathan brothers – Irfan and Yusuf – helped the needy.

Gambhir has pledged to donate Rs 50 lakh for the cause while Ganguly has pledged to donate rice worth Rs 50 lakh. On the other hand, Yusuf and Irfan have donated face masks while Dhawan has donated to the Prime Minister’s relief fund and urged others to contribute. MS Dhoni has also made a contribution of INR 1 lakh through a Pune based NGO.
