Sachin Tendulkar Recalls the 1983 WC Victory Which Got Him Into the Serious Business

25th June is arguably the biggest day in the history of Indian cricket. An avid cricket lover especially of India will never forget such a date. On this particular day, 35 years ago, India lifted the World Cup for the very first time in their history.

Under the captaincy of Kapil Dev, India scripted history and went on to lift the coveted World Cup in only the third edition of the competition. They were never given any chance ahead of the tournament.

Team India proved to be the dark horses and went on to beat Windies twice in the competition.

The World Cup victory proved to be a major change in Indian cricket history. More youngsters started taking the game seriously and many more talents came up before rising to the occasion.

Players outside the metro city’s started taking interest in the game and it was the triumphant journey which also made legendary Sachin Tendulkar dream of lifting the World Cup for his nation.

Taking to his twitter handle he shared few pictures from the historic campaign.

”My journey into the World of professional and serious cricket began today, 35 years back. Dreams do come true. Keep chasing them. #WorldCup83 #SportPlayingIndia,” Tendulkar wrote.

But without the World Cup victory for India, we might have been deprived of the emergence of Tendulkar.

The story of WC 1983 for India:

Coming back to the 1983 World Cup, India huffed and puffed their way to the final of the tournament. They were quite brilliant in the later stages. It was a Dev special at the Tunbridge Wells which ensured Indian remained in the tournament.

However, Dev was brilliant with the bat as he smashed a scintillating 175 against Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile in the grand finale, India after batting first post just 183 runs. However, their bowling line-up fought very hard and eventually helped them to win by 43 runs. 

Also, Mohinder Amarnath was the best Indian player who bagged the Man of the Match Award. Well, the dream of lifting the World Cup for Sachin Tendulkar was realised after he had spent 22 years in the international arena.
