From India, the former legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar sent belated birthday wishes to his rival Shoaib Akhtar, who celebrated his 43rd birthday on August 13.

Taking to his Twitter handle he wrote, “Belated birthday wishes to, @shoaib100mph. Hope you had a great day.” Akhtar played for Sachin’s All Stars XI in the three-match T20 series organized in the United States of America.

Pertinently, Tendulkar alongside Shane Warne made such an event possible in the US.

Some of the rivalries between Shoaib Akhtar and Sachin Tendulkar:

Tendulkar and Shoaib were involved in several intense battles during their playing days.

Tendulkar played one of his finest innings against Pakistan in a World Cup match back in 2003. He treated Shoaib and the whole Pakistan bowling line-up to some electrifying strokeplay during his brilliant knock of 98 off 75 deliveries.

It was a master class by the genius. His uppercut to fetch six of Shoaib is still etched in the memory of every individual who witnesses the match from close. He smashed 16 runs in Shoaib’s over which set the foundation for a sensational run chase for India.

Meanwhile, Shoaib has also dismissed Tendulkar on ten occasions during his international career.

During a Test match in Kolkata back in 1999, Shoaib was instrumental in running out Tendulkar. He stopped Tendulkar while trying to reach the crease.

The Eden Gardens crowd was livid, and the play was stopped due to their unruly behaviour. It was on the request of the Cricket Association Bengal (CAB) President Jagmohan Dalmiya, who also served as the ICC’s chief that Tendulkar went up to the crowd and asked them to calm down.

Shoaib Akhtar also castled Sachin Tendulkar for a golden duck in the same Test.

At the same time, Shoaib troubled Tendulkar on quite a few occasions in both formats of the game.

However during his heydays the “Little Master” used to torment any bowling attack. And Shoaib was no exception. It is really an unfortunate that we don’t get to see these kinds of battles nowadays.
