Replying to Uttar Pradesh’s mammoth 235, Bengal were off to a cracking start and had raced away to 149 off just 14 overs in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Eden Gardens. Uttar Pradesh still had the upper hand in the game as Bengal were already six wickets down and any hopes of seeing Bengal pull off a miraculous win was ended on the very first ball of the 15th over when Samarth Singh pulled off a stunning catch to send back Writtick Chatterjee.

Chatterjee had raced away to 14 off just ten balls and tried to slog one when Mohsin Khan bowled one on the off and middle stump. Chatterjee had not made a great connection, but the ball was still looking to fall in the no man’s land behind the point region. However, Samarth Singh, who was standing at point, chased the ball, kept his eyes on it and made a stunning dive to complete an unbelievable catch at deep point.

Here is a clip of that catch:

Meanwhile, coming to the game, Bengal were all out for 160. Opener Shreevats Goswami’s 28-ball 57 runs knock had given them a great start, but they eventually failed to keep the chase on track. Earlier in the day, Suresh Raina had played a stunning innings of 126 not out and was well supported by Akshdeep Nath’s 43-ball 80 as Uttar Pradesh piled up a huge total.
