Sanjay Manjrekar‘s sly attempt to steal some credit for his state Mumbai following the contribution of two Mumbaikars in Vidarbha’s historic Ranji Trophy win backfired badly as the former India cricketer ended up getting trolled.

Vidarbha, who made it to the Ranji Trophy final for the first time in 62 attempts, were not given even an outside chance to progress far in the nation’s premier first-class tournament let alone winning it, but the Faiz Fazal-led side proved their detractors wrong. They defeated the likes of Bengal, Punjab and Karnataka to make it qualify for their maiden Ranji Trophy final where they locked horns against seven-time winners and widely touted favourites Delhi.

Vidarbha’s stunning run continued in the final as they thoroughly outplayed Delhi in all departments, crushing the national capital-based outfit by nine wickets to seal their first title. Faiz Fazal’s decision to ask Delhi to bat first was fully justified by his bowlers as led by Rajneesh Gurbani’s six-wicket haul Vidarbha restricted Rishabh Pant & Co. to 295.

In reply, Vidarbha posted a mammoth 547 all out with Akshay Wadkar leading the charge with his maiden century in first-class cricket. On the fourth day of the game which eventually turned out to be the last, Vidarbha lost their last three wickets for just 19 runs after starting the day on 528 for seven.

In their second innings, Delhi were all out for 280, thus setting Vidarbha a paltry 29-run target which the maiden finalists chased down easily.

And at a time when everyone was busy lauding the side for their incredible achievement, Manjrekar decided to post a cheeky message.

“And yes, Vidarbha, don’t mention it. You are most welcome* *Two Mumbai stalwarts in the squad,” Manjrekar wrote referring to former Mumbai opener Wasim Jaffer who played for Vidarbha and head coach Chandrakant Pandit who was sacked by Mumbai after the 2016-17 season.

Well, Twitter was quick to respond to Manjrekar’s tweet. Here are some of the interesting reactions:
