England’s limited-overs skipper, Eoin Morgan, is forced to pull out of the upcoming World XI and Windies exhibition match due to injury. Pakistan veteran all-rounder Shahid Afridi has been named as the new skipper.
The exhibition match is scheduled on May 31 at Lord’s, to raise funds for the damages incurred due to the Carribean islands.
It is learnt that Morgan fractured his fingers during Middlesex’s game against Somerset at Taunton. Initially, Morgan was scheduled to lead the World XI side.
Whereas, English wicket-keeper batsman Sam Billings, coming back from his successful stint at Chennai Super Kings, has been named as Morgan’s replacement in the World XI squad. Further, the likes of Sam Curran and Tymal Mills have also got added to the World XI squad.
Interestingly, Shahid Afridi is also coming back from a hamstring injury which he sustained during this year’s PSL, representing Karachi Kings.
Billings and Curran, along with Tymal Mills included in World XI side
Afridi, a few days back, tweeted about his intentions to get 100% fit before the highly anticipated fixture.
Also, Tymal Mills is renowned for being injury prone as far as his International career is concerned. One of the upcoming prospects from English domestic circuit is fast-bowling all-rounder Sam Curran, who is the brother of England International Tom Curran.
Curran, like Billings, is coming off his IPL stint with Kolkata Knight Riders this season.
