Bangladesh skipper Shakib al Hasan and substitute Nurul Hasan was fined 25% of their match fee for breaching ICC Code of Conduct. The two also received one demerit point each for breaching Level 1 Code of Conduct.

During the last over of 6th T20I of the Nidahas Trophy, players from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were involved in an on-field spat due to chaos initiated by the ruling of the umpires.

12th man for Bangladesh, Nurul Hasan was seen quarrelling with Sri Lankan skipper Thisara Perera while an animated Shakib al Hasan attempted to call back his players, showing dissent to the ruling of the on-field umpires.

Shakib was found to have breached Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”.

Meanwhile, Nurul was adjudged guilty of violating Article 2.1.2, which deals with “conduct that brings the game into disrepute”.

Friday’s incidents were disappointing as you don’t want to see such player behaviour at any level of cricket. I understand that it was a tense and an edge-of-the-seat match with a place in the final on the line, but the actions of the two players were unacceptable and cannot be condoned as they clearly went overboard,” stated match referee Chris Broad.

Had the fourth umpire not stopped Shakib and the fielders remonstrating. Then the on-field umpires not intervened between Nurul and Thisara, things could have become worse,” added Broad.

Both Shakib and Nurul pleaded guilty to the offences. They accepted the sanctions proposed by Chris Broad of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. Also, suggested that there exists no requirement for a formal hearing.

For those unaware of the proceedings of the match on Friday, Nurul Hasan was seen pointing the finger at Thisara Perera. While Shakib was seen gesturing his batsmen to come back, remonstrating the decision of the umpires.
