Pakistan legend Shoaib Akhtar has slammed the national team for the mistreatment of their former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. On Day 2 of the first Test between England and Pakistan, Sarfaraz Ahmed was seen carrying shoes in the middle after the wicket of his replacement Mohammad Rizwan. In the day later, visuals also emerged showing Sarfaraz Ahmed carrying drinks for the players as a 12th man.
While it looked like a regular 12th man duty, Akhtar was not happy about it and vented his fury. He was of the opinion that, it is not the right treatment for a player, who has led the national team for four years. He should have been stopped even if he did himself, adding that Wasim Akram was never put into similar position.
“I didn’t like the visual. If you want to make an example out of a boy from Karachi, then it is wrong. You can’t do this to a player who has led Pakistan for four years and has won Champions Trophy for the country. You have made him carry the shoes. If he has done it himself, then stop him. Wasim Akram never brought shoes for me,” Shoaib Akhtar said.
“This shows that Sarfaraz is such a docile and weak man. He must have lead Pakistan in the same way as he carried the shoes. That’s why Mickey Arthur always dominated him. I am not saying carrying the shoes is a problem, but former captain can’t do that,” he added.
