Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman played a key role in the selection of the Indian head coach. CAC had given the coaching responsibilities to Ravi Shastri last year when Anil Kumble resigned from the post after his ‘Untenable’ partnership with captain Virat Kohli.

In fact, Indian captain Virat Kohli shares a great bonhomie with Ravi Shastri. Kohli-Shastri bond had gone from strength to strength when Ravi Shastri was the Team Director. However, Kohli relationship with Anil Kumble went sour.

Meanwhile, India has done well while playing under the tutelage of Ravi Shastri. He has been following the game for a long time and has all the knowledge.

However, Ravi Shastri is a motivator kind of a coach. He can help pump up his players to go out there in the middle and fight it out. Shastri pushes India’s player’s to give their 120% on the field and Virat Kohli’s men have done a good job in coming up with the rewards.

Ravi Shastri was himself a fighter in his playing days and that has transpired in his coaching.

However, Shastri can lag behind a bit if we talk about the technicalities of the game. In fact, there is no problem in Ravi Shastri been the head coach but there is an issue in the WAY he was selected as Indian head coach.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli wanted Ravi Shastri as the head coach and he had made his intentions clear to the Cricket Advisory Committee.

If Virat Kohli doesn’t interfere in the working of the CAC.

If Virat Kohli would not have interfered in the working of the CAC, the committee could have looked for some other options. In fact, Ravi Shastri was not even in the race to be India’s next coach and had come into contention only after Anil Kumble resigned.

Subsequently, the other candidates would have also got a fair chance to be India’s next head coach. Thus, it gives an undue advantage to the captain’s favourite person, which is not fair.

If Virat Kohli interferes in the selection of head coach.

Virat Kohli clearly wanted Shastri as the head coach. Therefore, he was given his wish by the CAC. However, Kohli wasn’t happy with the working of Anil Kumble. Thus, it is could have had a bad impact on the team had Kumble continued. Thus, if Virat Kohli would have got a different coach other than Ravi Shastri, it might have led to disharmony in the Indian dressing room.

In fact, it is well known that a bad dressing room environment can lead to bad results with Greg Chappell as the prime example. India had touched new lows in 2007 when they were the shown exit doors in the World Cup. Rahul Dravid was the captain of the side then.

Consequently, it is crucial to keep the right atmosphere within the group to yield results. Thus, it is imperative to be mentally fit for all the players to be firing at all cylinders.
