‘Mankad’ – a mode of dismissal when a bowler runs out a non-striker for leaving their crease before the ball is delivered – looks set to become the talk of the town once again after Dawlat Zadran ran out Noor Ali Zadran through the controversial mode of dismissal in the ongoing Shpageeza Cricket League 2020.
Mankading is well within the rules of the games but is widely considered against the spirit of the game. The mode of the dismissal has divided the cricket fraternity over its legitimacy over the years. But it did not stop Dawlat Zadran from pulling out of his run-up to knock the stumps of Noor Ali during the match between Mis Ainak Knights and Kabul Eagles.
The incident occurred in the 16th over of the Kabul Eagles’ innings when Noor Ali was well set on 61 with his team chasing 164. On the first ball of that over, Dawlat Zadran had dismissed Samiullah Shinwari to reduce the Eagles to 129 for 4. And just two balls later, he pulled out of his run-up to take the bails off as Noor Ali was well out of the crease. He first missed taking the bails off before throwing the ball at the stumps and leaving the batsman surprised.
The bowler look delighted after the dismissal as he clapped while Noor Ali looked shocked. But the batsman had no option apart from walking off as his fine knock came to an end. Fortunately for his side, his dismissal did not cost them the match as they went on to win the game by 4 wickets. The Eagles chased down the 164-run target with an over remaining.
Azmatullah Omarzai and Farmanullah shared an unbeaten partnership of 22 runs for the seventh wicket to take their side home. Noor Ali was adjudged the Man of the Match for his 61-run knock which came off 42 balls and was studded with three fours and four sixes.
