Shreyas Iyer, Indian middle-order batsman and the captain of Delhi Capitals, is looking forward to what he has termed a ‘challenging’ Indian Premier League season.

The 13th edition of the cash-rich IPL will take place in the United Arab Emirates between September 19-November 10.

The tournament will take place behind closed doors as part of safety measures due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Terming the 13th edition as ‘very very different’, Shreyas Iyer said that IPL 2020 will be the most important assignment of his career thus far.

“It’s certainly very very different from the last season but challenges excite me. And as a captain, it is certainly going to be one of my most important assignments, just because of how different the setting is,” Shreyas Iyer said in a video posted by the official Twitter handle of Delhi Capitals.

With the IPL set to be played without the presence of fans in the stadium, there have been talks that the absence of color, glitz and the passion that raucous fans bring to the stadium might have an impact on the performances of players.

But Shreyas Iyer’s thinking is actually the opposite. According to the Delhi Capitals captain, the absence of fans will give an extra motivation to the players to entertain the fans watching on television with their whirlwind performances.

“It’s going to be a different IPL no doubt. And we will be without our fans in the stadium. But I think, that only makes us extra motivated to do this for them, the fans,” Iyer reckoned.

Delhi Capitals had a brilliant season last year as they reached the playoffs for the first time in over seven years. The Shreyas Iyer-led unit has a good mix of youthful exuberance and seasoned campaigners and it will be interesting to see if they are able to better their performance of the last season this time around.
