Shubman Gill Becomes The Youngest Indian To Score A First-Class Double Century

The exclusion of young Indian batsman Shubman Gill from the ODI squad against West Indies created a lot of stir in the country. Gill has answered the selectors in style and the way he knows the best. He scored an excellent double century against West Indies A to post a massive total on the board.

Shubman Gill made up for his first-ball duck in the first innings with an unbeaten innings of 204 runs while skipper Hanuma Vihari came up with an important knock of 118. The duo revived India A from deep trouble after losing early wickets. Starting the day at 23 for 3, with only a slender lead of seven runs, India A lost nightwatchman Shahbaz Nadeem early in the day as Akim Frazer trapped him in front. Since then, West Indies A had nothing in favour of them as Gill and Vihari dominated the whole day to post a towering target of 373 runs on the board.

Gill, who failed to find a place in the West Indies tour, in particular, was spectacular. His unbeaten knock of 204 runs included 19 fours and two sixes with a strike rate of 82.25. Shubman Gill has once again shown his class stating that he deserves a place in the Indian team. He made his debut earlier this year against New Zealand but couldn’t do great.

Meanwhile, with that double hundred, Shubman Gill became the youngest Indian to score a first-class double century. Gill, who is 19-year-old leapfrogged former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who held the record for long scoring at the age of 20 years. Gambhir amassed 218 runs for India Board President’s XI against the Zimbabweans in a tour match in 2002.  India A eventually declared their innings at 365 for 4 leaving West Indies A to chase a massive target. The host openers – Jeremy Solozano and Montcin Hodge added 37 runs as the hosts need 336 runs to win in the final day.
