Kolkata Knight Riders opener Shubman Gill was instrumental in the team’s seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad last week. Gill, who is tipped to be the star of the Indian team in the future, scored a composed 70* in 62 balls which saw his team chase down a modest target of 145.

Gill was brilliantly supported by Englishman Eoin Morgan who also remained unbeaten at a score of 42. Gill and Morgan were involved in a 92-run match-winning stand which gave KKR their first victory of the season.

Speaking about his teammate, 21-year-old Shubman Gill said that Morgan tackled the spinners brilliantly in the match. He also expressed his desire to learn the art of sweeping from the World Cup-winning skipper.

“He batted really well, especially against the spinners. His reverse-sweeping and sweeping is something I definitely want to learn.”

Gill went on to add that it was important for him to stay there at the crease and he tried to figure out what the bowlers were trying to do with the help of his partner.

“The conversations weren’t long in the middle, we were trying to anticipate what the bowlers were trying to do. The total wasn’t big so it was important for me to stay there. As a batting unit we all did well,” added Gill.

The Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Rajasthan Royals in their next game at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. Needless to say, both Shubman Gill and Eoin Morgan will have to be at their very best to see off an in-form Rajasthan side.
