Solomon Mire retires hurt after being hit by a bouncer in the eye

Zimbabwe opening batsman Solomon Mire was forced to retire hurt after being hit on the eye by a Kemar Roach bouncer. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is facing Windies in the Super Six match of the ICC World Cup Qualifier. However, Zimbabwe Cricket in a statement said that he has undergone concussion tests and has cleared.

The incident took place in the seventh over of the Zimbabwean innings, and Mire was batting at 22. Roach bowls a sharp bouncer aiming straight at the helmet. Mire goes for a pull but gets beaten due to the extra bounce on that.

The ball gets stuck between the helmet visor and grill. He left the immediately and underwent few Test.

Zimbabwe Cricket issues statement:

Zimbabwe Cricket in their statement cleared Mire and said that he has enough vision to bat.

He is being treated for swelling and blurred vision from mild nerve compression in his right eye, will sit out until the swelling subsides and his vision clears enough to bat. He has undergone concussion tests and was cleared,” the statement said.

Solomon Mire made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in November 2014 and had represented his country in 36 ODI matches since then. He has hit one ODI hundred and three fifties in his career so far.

Meanwhile, if Mire recovers on time, then he is expected to bat again.

However, Zimbabwe is looking good at 246 for 5 in 44 with Brendan Taylor unbeaten on 138.
