Bangladesh cricketer Soumya Sarkar began a new inning of his life when he recently tied the knot with longtime girlfriend — Priyonti Debnath Puja on Wednesday. However, the marital heaven seems to have come with a price, as a lot of controversies have emerged from the all-rounders’ marriage ceremony which includes the use of deerskin during a ritual.

As per reports, two people were arrested for stealing mobile phones in Sarkar’s marriage. A fight broke out during the ceremony, and now, the cricketer and his family could face further trouble for using deer’s skin in the marriage.

Soumya Sarkar may have to stand in the saddle due to alleged use of a deerskin:

While the wedding festivities may have been over in the 27-year-old’s marriage, however, the troubles seem to persist, as Sarkar and his family could face legal action and possible jail term for up to three years owing to possession of a deer’s skin.

Sarkar’s father Kishori Mohan Sarker shed further light on the issue in a recent interaction with the media.

He said, “This is a sign of our family tradition. The skin is mainly used for prayer. It’s too old It has been used for ages. I got it in the descent. I received deer skin from my father. I know he got it from his father.”

I have received many more things from my ancestors. Everything is with me. Soumya is my little boy. I am having a very busy time with his marriage. However, a group is making the things complicated about the deer skin. I do not know why.”

As per section 6 of the Wildlife Conservation Act, a person who is keeping animals or wildlife skin without a license may be subject to a prison sentence of up to three years.

If this indeed happens, and it would be a big blow for Bangladesh and their title hopes for the upcoming T20 World Cup, as Sarkar has been in a good form lately.
