BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has declared that India, Australia, England and one more team will lock horns with each other in a 4-nation Super Series. The series will start in 2021, the same year in which India will host the T20 World Cup. The next four years are filled with marquee events. Australia will host the T20 World Cup next year before India follow suit.

In 2021, the final of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship will take place too in England before India host the next 50-over World Cup in 2023. And the fans can now look forward to yet another exciting series as traditional heavyweights – India, England, Australia and a fourth team – will lock horns in the much-awaited series.

This development comes just months after the ICC proposed to have one flagship tournament once in a year from 2023 to 2031. The proposal, however, was rejected by the cricket boards of India, England and Australia.

Sourav Ganguly on the Super Series:

Sourav Ganguly confirmed that the first edition of the super series will take place in India. The former India skipper said that the BCCI had a fruitful meeting with their England counterpart.

“Australia, England, India and another top team will feature in the Super Series which begins in 2021 and the first edition of the tournament will be played in India. We have very good relations with the ECB and the meeting went off very well,” said Sourav Ganguly while speaking to the media during the fantasy cricket app My11Circle’s event.

It will now be interesting to see the reaction of the ICC to the latest development. The rules laid down by the governing body of the game do not allow any board to conduct a multi nation series featuring more than three teams. Thus it would not be surprising at all if the ICC gets in a tussle with the BCCI, CA and ECB over the proposed super series.
