The Lord’s Test match between India and England saw the erection of two pillars of Indian batting in the decades to come. This was the match where Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid made their debut for the country.

India was forever known to be tigers at home condition but passive when it came to performance overseas. Apart from Sachin Tendulkar, none had the calibre to come up with spirited performances overseas.

However, it all changed with Ganguly and Dravid making their debuts for the country. VVS Laxman joined in later to bolster the great Indian batting line up, forming the Fab 4 of World Cricket.

Ganguly displayed his majestic talent in the very first outing for the country where he scored a top-notch 131 of 301 deliveries with twenty boundaries to his name.

Rahul Dravid, on the other hand, gave ample support to Ganguly as he missed out on his ton om debut by just five runs. The two went on to show that India’s batting is heading towards greatness.

Even after serving almost 20 years for Indian cricket, the two gems from the country are still serving the nation and dedicated their post-retirement life to the sport in India.

While Dravid famously took the Indian U19 side towards victory in the world championships in New Zealand by taking the role of coach, Sourav Ganguly serves as a President of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

At his office at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, Dada decided to get a little nostalgic about the event 22 years back to witness some snippets from his famous knock at Lord’s.

At Office ..just saw star showing my first test hundred ..no better memories …,” tweeted Sourav Ganguly.
