As the world continues to grapple against the constantly surging novel coronavirus pandemic, two South Africa women have been tested positive for the deadly virus. The report emerges ahead of their training camp which was set to get underway in Pretoria from July 27. Apart from the players, a staff member has also been tested positive for coronavirus.
All three members of Cricket South Africa have subsequently been withdrawn from the practice squad. However, the board, has maintained its stand and has not revealed the name of the players or support staff, who have been tested positive. This comes as a major setback as South Africa women’s team were set to begin training for their scheduled England tour.
CSA have confirmed the development and said that they players and support staff will self-isolate over a period of 10 days. The statement from the board also added that they have no to mild symptoms as their medical staffs continue to monitor their condition. CSA Medical Committee’s protocols will guide the players for their return procedure once they are back to normal.
“We can confirm that three people have tested positive. The players and support staff that have tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of 10 days and will take no part in the training camp,” CSA said in a release.
“They have nil to mild symptoms as our medical team continue to closely monitor them in accordance with CSA’s COVID-19 Steering Committee protocols to ensure their well-being.
“The players’ return to train and play program will be guided by the CSA Medical Committee’s protocols,” the release stated.
Earlier, India had reportedly pulled out of the tri-series in the United Kingdom with England and South Africa.
As a result, England and South Africa might play an extended bilateral series in September.
