Of late, South Africa saw themselves hitting the decreasing bar in the performance graph. The absence of AB de Villiers ahead of the 2019 World Cup also made the things look bleak for the Proteas. Speaking of the same, the former wicketkeeper-batsman, Mark Boucher quoted the Men in Green isn’t good enough heading into England for the mega-event.

South Africa is currently involved in a bilateral series with Zimbabwe at home. Though they easily outsmarted the opposition to seal the series, Mark Boucher feels South Africa is far away from terming as the best team in the world.

South Africa is nowhere close to the best team – Mark Boucher

Mark Boucher feels the current South African team isn’t much enough going into the upcoming 2019 World Cup. However, Boucher added it might be the blessing in disguise for the team going with no superstars in the side.

Further, the former great stated the loss of AB de Villiers would have an impact in the batting lineup. He feels the team is currently testing various batsman to come good for India.

”See, people look at the team during every World Cup and on paper, we are a good team normally. I think we are probably going into this World Cup not such a good team on paper, which could be a good thing for South Africa. I think we are nowhere near the best team. It is a good space to go in out there and surprise a few,” Boucher said to Gulf News.

”Look, our bowling is good and we have good bowlers coming through. We have got good results as well. I think the batting is a bit of a worry and if you lose AB then you are losing a big player in the team. Who is going to step into his position that we don’t know yet? There are a lot of players being used at the moment to try and test them,” he added.

However, it is pretty much tough for South Africa to replace a player like AB de Villiers in the team. Nonetheless, they can try various combinations to make the things happen for the Proteas.
