The suspension of Danushka Gunathilaka is taking various turns and twists. Initially, he was suspended from all formats of the game by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) while citing misconduct. Now, the latest reports reveal the cricketer is involved in an alleged sexual harassment case.
As per the latest AFP report, it is learnt that the pending inquiry is related to the alleged sexual assault near the team hotel in Colombo.
The recent development cited the presence of top-order Gunathilaka during the incident that took place in the hotel.
Pertinent to mention that the Norwegian women filed the complaint to the higher officials citing the sexual harassment.
The other member to be involved in the scenario is a 26-year-old British passport-holder of Sri Lankan origin.
Police confirm no involvement of Gunathilaka:
The British-origin Lankan was put behind the bars while the Norwegian women filed a complaint citing ”attempt to rape”.
Meanwhile, police officials confirm that there is no involvement of Gunathilaka in the incident.
However, the Sri Lankan board wants to make a special inquiry in order to get Gunathilaka cleared.
The flamboyant opening batsman Gunathilaka has breached the rule of curfew which eventually prompted SLC to initiate a probe.
The British citizen “is under arrest and we are continuing our investigations,” a police official was quoted as saying by AFP. “A Norwegian tourist made the complaint of rape.” Even though the official confirmed that there was no allegation against Gunathilaka, SLC will launch its own inquiry against the batsman since he has been alleged to have breached the curfew.
