Sri Lanka & Zimbabwe To Contest Tri-Series In Bangladesh In January

Bangladesh will host Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in a tri-nation One-Day International series next month; the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Thursday (December 12). The ODI series will be followed by the hosts taking on Sri Lanka in two Tests and as many Twenty20 Internationals.

The tri-series, meanwhile, will see the teams playing two games against each other before the final on January 27. Bangladesh will lock horns against Zimbabwe in the series-opener on January 15. All the three teams, meanwhile, will be desperate to put in a solid performance and start the year on a high. Of the three teams, only Zimbabwe had won a series in 2017 when they stunned Sri Lanka 3-2 at home. But barring the historic series win in Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe did not have the best of outings in the ongoing year. The African country had lost the home series against Afghanistan and had drawn the two-match series against Scotland.

On the other hand, Bangladesh began the year by drawing series in Sri Lanka before finishing second in the tri-series in Ireland featuring the hosts and New Zealand. It was followed by a good show in the Champions Trophy where they made it to the semifinal before being whitewashed in South Africa. Sri Lanka, on their part, has had a disastrous year. The Islanders suffered three 5-0 losses this year in addition to exiting the Champions Trophy at the group stage. So far, they have won only 5 of the 27 ODIs they have played so far.

Schedule for the tri-series:

The Test matches are scheduled to be played in Chittagong and Dhaka. The first Test will start on January 31 while the second match will be played from February 8. The two T20Is – in Dhaka and Sylhet – will be played on February 15 and 18 respectively.
