Steve Smith's Fiance Reveals That How Metal Detector Almost Ruined His Surprise Proposal

The Australian skipper Steve Smith has been in the form of his life and his record, especially in the longest format of the game, is a sheer testimony to his credentials in the recent past. He is just 2^nd to the Great Sir Don Bradman when it comes to Test averages and has been going great guns in the ongoing Ashes so far. The unorthodox batsman stuck a sensational knock of 239 in the 3^rd Test at the WACA in Perth which paved the way for a comprehensive Australian victory which ensured a series victory for the hosts.

Smith recently got engaged to his girlfriend Dani Wills in New York. Despite planning everything possible, he forgot to consider a particular thing. Dani explained that how Smith used his street smartness to ensure that the proposal remained a surprise. He was planning to propose her at the top of the Rockefeller Center in New York. However, he didn’t remember that there were metal detectors which would go off if he had passed through them.

However, the Aussie skipper passed the taste with his quick instincts. During a conversation with Nine Network Dani said:

“He’s got to the security scanners with the ring in his pocket and gone ‘uh oh — what am I going to do here!’ Luckily I had a plastic bag with some water in it. And he was like ’oh, I’ll carry that bag for you’ and he slipped the ring box in there.”

“At the time I was like ’OK, thanks’. I thought it was a bit weird. But he snuck it through security.” Dani who is a law student also helps Smith in his practice especially during times when no one is at the ground to feed him balls. “Steve can be sitting at home and there’ll be no one at the cricket ground to feed balls,” Willis said. “So I’ll get the ‘hey, would you like to come and feed some balls?’ He sets everything up (with the bowling machine) and I just load the ball,” Dani concluded.
