Karnataka star Stuart Binny has decided to end his association with the state side in order to play for Nagaland for the upcoming domestic season. The out-of-favour India allrounder has already taken the no-objection certificate from Karnataka to play for the new team.
Binny is the second Karnataka player after Vinay Kumar to change team ahead of the upcoming season. Vinay Kumar has decided to play for Puducherry after a forgettable last season for Karnataka. Binny’s career, nonetheless, continues to head in the wrong direction. It looked very promising when his performance for Karnataka as well as Rajasthan Royals in Indian Premier League saw him make his India debut.

Binny had a solid domestic season in 2013-14, scoring 443 runs at 43.22 and taking 14 wickets. He played a key role in Karnataka’s storming run to the Ranji Trophy title. He was subsequently picked for the tour of New Zealand. Later on the tour of Bangladesh, he registered sensational figures of 6 for 4, the best by an Indian bowler in ODIs, in the second ODI in Mirpur. In the same year, he made his Test debut too during the tour of England.

But things soon started to fall apart and Binny lost his place in the team. He has not played for India since 2016 and is unlikely to play anytime soon. His poor performance in IPL has hurt his cause even more. Binny has so far played 6 Tests, 14 ODIs and three T20Is for India. Well, he will be looking to hit the ground running for Nagaland in order to impress the selectors again.

“We have finalised three players for the senior team. Stuart Binny, Yogesh Takawale and Shrikant Mundhe from Maharashtra. We had requested him to play for us and we got him,” P. Bendang Jamir, selector and vice-president of Nagaland Cricket Association, told Sportstar.
Stuart Binny is likely to join Nagaland’s pre-season camp at the Sovima Cricket Ground in Dimapur by September 10.
