And, so the moment is finally here; a moment that we had all been waiting for. Stuart Broad has become only the fourth fast bowler, the second youngest and 7th overall to scale Mount.500 in the history of Test match cricket.

Broad, who was dropped from the first Test in Southampton after the English team-management opted for the pace of Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, has shown in the last couple of game, why he is such an irresistible force in English conditions and why he should never have been dropped or should never be dropped from the England Test team, especially in home conditions.

After having taken a six-wicket haul in the first innings of the ongoing Test before nipping out two more on the third evening, Broad had to wait for another 24 hours to achieve the coveted feat as the entire 4th day was washed out due to persistent rain in Manchester.

When the game did begin on the  5th day, Stuart Broad picked up from where he had left trapping Kraig Brathwaite LBW with another nip-backer to bring up his 500th scalp.

Interestingly, Kraig Brathwaite was also his bowling partner James Anderson’s 500th wicket three years ago. Broad’s feat makes England the only team to field two fast bowlers with more than 500 wickets at the same time.

Broad, whose last 100 wickets have come at an average of 22, joins the elite list consisting of names like Muttiah Muralitharan [800], Shane Warne [708], Anil Kumble [619], James Anderson [589*], Glenn McGrath [563] and Courtney Walsh [519].
