Sunil Gavaskar Wants India To Try Out Shubman Gill In Final Two New Zealand ODIs

Sunil Gavaskar feels India should try out Shubman Gill in the last two ODIs against New Zealand.
Almost everything has gone India’s way in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand. The Men in Blue have thoroughly dominated the series so far and have already won it after winning the first three games convincingly.

With the series already in bag, India can now take the opportunity to fine-tune whatever areas need fine-tuning. They have a good chance to try out the fringe players in the testing conditions of New Zealand. And the one name that pops out ahead of the rest is that of Shubman Gill, one of the most sought after youngsters in the game.
Gill has continued to impress since helping India win the ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand last year.
He scored 372 runs at an average of 124 and bagged the Man of the Tournament award. It helped him bag a lucrative IPL deal from Kolkata Knight Riders. The youngster totally justified the franchise’s faith scoring 203 runs including a match-winning fifty against eventual winners Chennai Super Kings.

He then made it to India A team and continued his impressive show with the bat. Gill recently had a stunning outing in the ongoing season of the Ranji Trophy. In just 5 games, he scored 729 runs at an average of over 104. The fine run of form helped him earn his maiden India call-up. However, he is yet to get a game in the series so far.
But with the series decided and skipper Virat Kohli rested, Sunil Gavaskar feels Gill should be tried out. The former India skipper also feels that Gill should bat at number three.
“Well because the No.3 spot is vacant, I would want to give Shubman Gill a game, give him a couple of games and see how he fares. If he gets to bat, you will get a fair idea how he is taking to international cricket,” Gavaskar told India Today.

Gavaskar also spoke on what should be India’s squad for the upcoming World Cup, saying that the team is more or less decided and the only thing they are looking at are the fifth and sixth bowlers.
“I think you are looking at the fifth and sixth bowlers, that is where India is coming good. Hardik Pandya is back for the first time since September and he bowled and fielded very well, that was one brilliant comeback. Then there is Kedar Jadhav as well. Indian selectors are spoilt for choice and that’s always good,” Gavaskar said.
