Out-of-favour India allrounder Suresh Raina has hit back at former chief selector MSK Prasad for his recent comments. After the veteran batsman stated that selectors should take more responsibility towards senior players, MSK Prasad had said that Suresh Raina did not earn a recall because of his poor performance in domestic circuit.

As things stand, Suresh Raina is well below in the pecking order and is nowhere close to earning a recall from the Indian team. An integral part of India’s limited-overs teams not very long ago, the Uttar Pradesh star got just a handful of chances when MSK Prasad was in charge of the selection panel.

He last played for India during the tour of England in 2018. Suresh Raina was making a comeback to international cricket through that tour only but was dropped straightaway after India returned from England as he failed to make chances count. Since then, he has not been tried even once although India were desperately waiting for a reliable batsmen in the middle-order for last year’s World Cup.

Suresh Raina has now hit back at Prasad, saying that the ex-chief selector rarely talked to him. Prasad had not only pointed out Suresh Raina’s domestic performance but also said that that he had spoken and explained the batsman the roadmap for his comeback.

“I had personally spoken to Raina calling him to my room and explained him the roadmap for his future comebacks. He had, back then, appreciated my efforts,” Prasad had said.

However, Raina, during an Instagram live session with Irfan Pathan, rubbished the comments, saying:

“MSK Prasad said that I under-performed and also stated that he spoke to me about my axing, but he didn’t speak to me at all. When my time comes, I will play.”
