India batting star Suresh Raina, on Saturday (January 20), extended his wishes to the Indian team after they retained their Blind Cricket World Cup title with a comprehensive win over Pakistan. The Indian team chased down a target of 308 with eight balls to spare to clinch the title by 2 wickets. Four years ago, India had defeated the same opponent to lift the trophy in 2014.
Batting first, Pakistan scored 308 runs with Badar Munir scoring 57 and Riasat Khan playing a knock of 48 runs. Skipper Nisar Ali made 47. In reply, India began in a cracking manner racing away to 111 for 1 but were in danger of losing the game after Pakistan clawed their way back in the final stages by claiming three consecutive wickets. Pakistan were looking primed to avenge the loss they suffered four years ago. However, the pendulum swung in India’s way after a wide delivery rolled on to the boundary as India won the thrilling contest and also finished the tournament unbeaten. India’s tally of two World Cup titles draws them level with Pakistan.
Accolades poured in for the Indian team from all quarters with Suresh Raina also congratulating the team for their achievement. The left-handed batsman also took a dig at Pakistan’s dismal record against India in World Cups by writing ‘mauka Mauka’ is a television advertisement campaign aired by Star Sports during the 2015 World Cup.
“Extremely happy, proud and most of all.. really inspired! Many congratulations #TeamIndia ?? on winning the #BlindCricketWorldCup. #MaukaMauka ?,” Raina tweeted.
