Indian fans would have to wait for some more time for seeing MS Dhoni in action, swinging the bat and witnessing standing behind the stumps. The former Indian captain hasn’t played any competitive cricket since the 2019 World Cup semi-final. MS Dhoni’s run out for half-century crushed India’s hopes of making it to the tournament decider at the Lord’s.

The thirteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was a massive pathway for the keeper-batsman to stake his claim for the 2020 ICC World T20. However, with the tournament postponed indefinitely, MS Dhoni’s future also hangs in the balance. Nevertheless, his preparations were on a roll as revealed by his teammate, Suresh Raina.

The likes of Raina, MS Dhoni, Murali Vijay, and Ambati Rayudu had all resumed training leading up to the lucrative league. Suresh Raina revealed that Dhoni was practising relentlessly, spending his morning in the gym and batting for three hours in the evening. He went on to say that even after batting for that many hours, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain wasn’t tired, which was unlike the previous times.

The best thing was, Rayudu, myself, Mahi bhai and Murali were batting in a group and Mahi bhai bats for long hours when he is in Chennai for about 2 – 4 hours. But this time he was just not getting tired of batting. He was doing his gym in the morning, followed by batting for 3 hours in the evening.” Raina said as quoted by India Today in the show Cricket Connected.

The 34-year old further disclosed that in the first few days MS Dhoni’s fitness level was at the peak and was playing his shots beautifully, having focussed primarily on fitness. Raina hopes that the tournament commences as quickly as possible so that the fans can witness how well has the skipper prepared himself.

His preparations were different this time, I have played with him over the years with the national side and IPL getting ready but it was different this time, so I just hope the matches can start quickly then everyone can see how well prepared he is and see what I saw myself live in the two months of camp that we had. When someone works hard, then the prayers and blessings find their way to them.”  the Uttar Pradesh batsman added.
