Suresh Raina Undergoes Knee Surgery In Amsterdam, Set To Miss Initial Stage Of Domestic Season

India batsman Suresh Raina underwent a knee surgery in Amsterdam for a troublesome knee, the BCCI announced on Friday. The left-handed batsman will need 4-6 week of rehab, that also rules him out of the initial stage of the Indian domestic season that kicks off with Duleep Trophy later this month. He isn’t a part of the any of the Duleep Trophy squads.
Mr Suresh Raina underwent a knee surgery where he had been facing discomfort for the last few months. The surgery has been successful and it will require him 4-6 week of rehab for recovery.

The 32-year-old is not confirmed to start for Uttar Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy next month and there could be a case when he might miss out on playing few matches. With two T20 World Cups coming in 2020 and 2021, Raina would hope to play as much as domestic cricket to make his comeback to the T20I side.

Raina has been out of the national squad for a long time now. He last played for Men in Blue in the ODI series on the tour of England last year. He was a part of the T20I squad on that tour and was a late addition to the ODI squad after Ambati Rayudu was dropped for failing yo-yo test.
Raina had himself failed yo-yo test in 2017, that saw him not being included in the squad. Ahead of the tour of South Africa, he cleared the test and was named n the T20I squad for the series. He also played in the Nidahas Trophy 2018 in Sri Lanka.

The UP-born player has played 18 Tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20Is so far. He has scored 768 in the longest format of the game. In ODIs, he has 5615 runs while in T20Is, he has scored 1605 runs. With a place in middle-order still open in white-ball cricket, Raina would eye to make his national comeback upon his return to the game.

He was a part of 2011 and 2015 World Cup squads but got just one series on road to 2019 World Cup to be in contention for selection. Raina was out of the ODI squad from October 2016 to July 2018 while he kept his place in the shortest format of the game during that period.
