Surrey has signed South African batsman, Theunis de Bruyn as Virat Kohli’s replacement.
The India skipper had to miss out on his County stint after suffering a neck injury. Virat’s County hopes ended before it even began when he suffered a blow to his neck against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2018.
Thus, the Proteas right-handed batsman will play for Surrey in the ongoing County season. Subsequently, de Bruyn will play against Somerset and Yorkshire later this month for the Surrey club.

It is a fine opportunity for Theunis de Bruyn.
Meanwhile, the South African lower-order batsman said it was his dream to ply on his trade in the County cricket.
“It has always been one of my ambitions to play county cricket,” De Bruyn told Surrey’s website.

Alec Stewart said the Proteas batsman would provide Surrey much-needed solidarity in the absence of its key players who are on national duties.
Director of cricket Alec Stewart said, “With Jason Roy and Tom Curran involved in the current one-day series against Australia and Ben Foakes and Sam Curran representing England Lions, Theunis will provide vital reinforcement for our next two County Championship matches.”
After representing Surrey, Theunis de Bruyn will join his South African teammates. The Rainbow nation will tour Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series which will kickstart from July 12.
Therefore, it would be a perfect opportunity for Theunis de Bruyn to get the experience of County championship under his belt. Consequently, de Bruyn will hope the testing English conditions make him a better batsman.
