Tamil Nadu Premier League Postponed Due To COVID-19

The fifth edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League, as it was expected, has been postponed for an indefinite period of time due to the global pandemic that is the novel coronavirus [COVID-19].
The 5th edition of the league was originally scheduled to begin on June 10 but the onset of COVID-19 has forced the authorities to put the tournament on the backburner
The tournament was set to feature eight teams with the grand finale slated for the 12th of July.
However, the Tamil Nadu Premier League does have a window till September, and it remains to be seen whether the tournament will be played behind closed doors or not.
“The revised schedule will be released in due course,” the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) released a statement on Monday.

Tamil Nadu Premier League joins a growing list od tournaments postponed due to COVID-19
Earlier the decision to postpone the fifth edition depended on the duration of lockdown.
“We still don’t know if there will be a partial lockdown or not in May. We have to wait and watch. Maybe the tournament will be postponed by two-three weeks depending on the lockdown,” a source told The New Indian Express.
But, with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extending the national lockdown till May 31st, the aforementioned decision was made by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.
TNPL is another tournament in the long list of events canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The likes of ‘The Hundred’ and the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League have already been postponed and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is also threatening to go the same way.
