Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has opted out of the upcoming series against India starting next month citing personal reasons. The national selectors have called a like-to-like replacement, Imrul Kayes to replace the experienced batsman.
Tamim’s wife is expecting their second child later this month which is the reason why Tamim has decided to not travel with the team. However, it is not sure whether Imrul will also be a part of the Test series which is a part of the ICC World Test Championship.
Reports emerged that Tamim Iqbal will skip the second Test in Kolkata to be with his wife who is likely to deliver then. However, now, the star batsman has decided to accompany his wife the entire week leading to the date of delivery. Chief Selector Minajul Abedin confirmed the same.
“Tamim had informed us earlier that he would miss the second Test in Kolkata but now he will be with his wife for the coming weeks,” chief selector Minhajul Abedin said.
Meanwhile, Tamim Iqbal’s absence will be a massive blow to the Bangladesh side, who has struggled in recent times. Notably, Tamim was out of the Test series against Afghanistan and the followed T20I tri-series involving Bangladesh and Afghanistan after requesting for a break from all forms of cricket.
The batsman is the second player after Mohammad Saifuddin to miss the upcoming series. Bangladesh will play three T20Is starting from November 3 followed by two Test matches from November 14.
