The 2020 ICC T20 World Cup is round the corner, and the teams have already started preparing for the premier tournament. Team India will be keen to bring home the prestigious trophy after remaining trophyless since 2013. The legendary batsman from West Indies, Brian Lara, also feels the Men in Blues are capable of winning all the tournaments they play, including the upcoming T20 World Cup. He also said that Virat Kohli and his team must appreciate the fact that everybody sort of targets India.

The Asian Giants have been dominant across the formats; however, they are yet to put a hand on any ICC events since they lifted the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. India have reached the semifinals of the last two 50-overs World Cup but lost in the semifinals to bow out of the competition.

India can win T20 World Cup: Brian Lara

As a result, Virat Kohli & his boys will go all guns blazing in the ICC T20 World Cup, and Brian Lara believes they can finish as the winners. Although India toil at No. 5 in the ICC T20I Rankings, they have looked dominant in 2019 and will begin as one of the frontrunners to win the competition.

“I think they are definitely capable of winning all tournaments that they play. I think what Virat Kohli and company and the Indian team has to appreciate the fact that everybody sort of target India. Everybody knows that some point of time one team is going to play that important match against India. If it’s a quarter-final, semi-final and final,” Brian Lara told India Today.

India, who won the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, will play mostly T20I matches this year to prepare for the competition. They are currently auditioning for the few slots left to finalise their 15-member squad who will fly to Australia in October. The tournament will start from October 18 and will run until November 15, with Melbourne Cricket Ground all set to host the finals.
