Madhya Pradesh spin bowler Kumar Kartikeya’s mother Sunita Singh was overwhelmed with her son returning home after a span of nine years.

Earlier this month, Kartikeya shared a picture with his mother on social media platforms to announce the reunion with his family.

“Met my family and mumma after 9 years (and) 3 months. Unable to express my feelings,” Kartikeya wrote in his caption.

The 24-year-old left-arm wrist spinner was picked by Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement for Mohammad Arshad Khan in the middle of the season.

Kartikeya claimed the wicket of Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson on the very second ball of his IPL career and finished the match with figures of 1/19 from four overs. He picked 2/39 against Kolkata Knight Riders in his third game for MI.

Kartikeya continued to impress Madhya Pradesh in the state team’s Ranji Trophy title-winning campaign. His contributions were vital in the knockouts, picking 8/128 match figures in the semi-final against Bengal and chipping in with four wickets in the second innings in the final.

With 32 wickets in six matches, Kartikeya finished second to Mumbai’s Shams Mulani (45) in the leading wicket-takers list.

Sunita was satisfied that the distance from his son for close to a decade helped the youngster accomplish his dreams and get recognition for his talent.

“He was coming home after 9 years. That’s how long I have waited for my son to return, successful and happy. After all the sacrifices over the years, I pray to god to recognize his journey and bless him with success so that I could be reunited with my son.

“It is his life and his journey, this was a sacrifice that we needed to make,” Sunita Singh said in a video posted on the Mumbai Indians’ official Instagram handle.”

The right path will be filled with difficulties: Shyam Nath Singh

Shyam Nath Singh, the father of Kartikeya, said the long path chosen for achieving success will always benefit despite how difficult it looks like.

“There are two paths. One is right and the other is wrong. The wrong path will be easy and the other one will be filled with difficulties and challenges, but that’s what will make your journey successful,” Shyam Nath Singh said in the same video.

Kartikeya is likely to be part of Madhya Pradesh’s next domestic season as well as Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023.
