Thisara Perera Regrets Failure to Execute Batting Plans

Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera has regretted his side failed to execute batting plans correctly following their successive defeat in the ongoing series. Notably, Sri Lanka lost to Bangladesh by a massive margin of 163 runs.
Sri Lanka conceded 320 runs after Bangladesh decided to bat first, but could only make 157 in response. Perera felt the Dhaka pitch was definitely a ‘300-run wicket’.
“I think our batting didn’t click. It can happen in cricket. When we look at the last match against Zimbabwe, we have a lot of positives to take. But in this match, we couldn’t execute our batting plans. This is definitely a 300-run wicket,” Perera said in a post-match press conference.
“We came back strong after Shakib and Tamim batted really well. It looked like a 350 score, but it came down to 320. Our bowling unit also did well in the first ten overs. But we didn’t execute our plans,” he stated.
Perera believed losing Angelo Mathews was a big blow for the team as the newly-appointed skipper Mathews suffered another injury setback that ruled him out of the game.
“He [Mathews] is a key player in our batting unit. I don’t know what happened with him. But certainly, it is really a big blow,” Perera admitted.
Perera further feels Hathurusingha’s return is a positive sign for Sri Lanka and he should be given time.
“I think it is plus point for us. Chandika Hathurusingha is one of the best coaches in the world. I worked with him on the A team in 2011-12. He needs time. No one can do miracles. I think it is time to step up with this new coach,” Perera concluded.
