Top 10 Highest Partnerships By Runs in ODI Cricket;  Partnerships are always a huge factor in the game of cricket in order to win games for your country. Even while chasing a low tally on the board or, in order to put a respectable total on the board, the crucial aspect for that is to register partnerships in the middle.

To form a partnership in ODI, it requires controlled aggression as well as some sensible display of batting by both batsmen on the field. However, there are a few cricketers, who have been successful in creating those partnerships on a consistent basis. 10. Mohammad Azharuddin & Ajay Jadeja – 275* against Zimbabwe:

The former skipper Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja find a place in the chart with their gritty knocks in the middle. Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja built a determined 275 runs partnership in the Pepsi Triangular Series, 1998. It came after India losing Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly for a cheap score on the board.

Azharuddin scored an unbeaten 153 off 150 balls which remains his highest score till date. Ajay Jadeja supported him well and scored 116 off 121 balls and India finished with 301/3. They eventually ended up winning the match by 32 runs. The partnership came for 4th wicket.

9. Upul Tharanga & Tillakaratne Dilshan – 282 against Zimbabwe

Yet again, it is Zimbabwe, who is on the receiving end. This was the group stage match of the ICC World Cup 2011 played in the subcontinent. The duo smashed 282 runs in 44.4 overs when Upul Tharanga got out. Tharanga scored 133 runs in 141 balls whereas aggressor Dilshan scored 139 in 128 deliveries in the partnership. The dup opened the innings for Sri Lanka in that particular game.

8. Quinton de Kock & Hashim Amla – 282* against Bangladesh

Yeah, the South African pair makes into the chart. The left-Right opening duo smashed their way to add an unbeaten 282* runs partnership against Bangladesh. Till date, it is the highest unbeaten partnership in the game of cricket. The sensational partnership came in a bilateral series when Bangladesh toured South Africa. In fact, they would have added more runs but the target set by Bangladesh was 278. And, yeah, they chased the tally without losing a single wicket.

7. David Warner & Travis Head – 284 against Pakistan

This time it is Australian pair David Warner and Travis Head, who makes into the chart. The duo opened the innings against Pakistan and went on to smash 284. It was in the 5th ODI of the series in 2017. Warner tallied 179 runs while Head on the other end scored 128 in that partnership.

It was the game when Australia tried Travis Head as the opener, as Aaron Finch wasn’t in best of his form. However, they got the quality show on display, as they both kept Pakistan chasing the leather more often than not.

6. Upul Tharanga & Sanath Jayasuriya – 286 vs England

The partnership used to be the highest 1st wicket partnership in ODI history. The destructive pair of Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga scored 286 runs in 199 balls while opening the innings against England at Leeds.

Sanath scored 152 in 97 balls whereas Tharanga contributed with 109 runs in 102 balls in the partnership. Chasing a mammoth total of 321 runs posted by England, the partnership ensured an easy victory for Lanka.

5. Imam-ul-Haq & Fakhar Zaman – 304 against Zimbabwe

Yet again Zimbabwe makes into the chart as victims. It was the game when Fakhar Zaman became the first Pakistani player to score a double century and he finished off at 210 of 156 balls. His partner Imam Ul Haq was dismissed for 113 off 122 balls by Wellington Mazakadza when the team’s score was 304.

The partnership broke the record for the highest partnership for the 1st wicket. Pakistan finished off the innings at 399/1 and Zimbabwe got bundled out for 155 handing Pakistan an easy win.

4. Sourav Ganguly & Rahul Dravid – 318 vs Sri Lanka

The two legendary cricketers of India also finds a place in the list. The duo scored 318 runs for 2nd wicket partnership against Sri Lanka in the ICC world cup 1999 in England. In a must-win match against Sri Lanka, the duo ensured a comfortable victory for India.

The partnership of 318 runs came off in 275 balls. Sourav contributed with 157 runs off 146 balls whereas Dravid played a knock of 145 in just 129 deliveries. This is the third only 300+ stand-in ODI cricket history at that time, now it is 4th.

3. Sachin Tendulkar & Rahul Dravid – 331 vs New Zealand:

Yet again, the legendary pair makes into the chart. This time it is Sachin Tendulkar and another name is Mr Consistent Rahul Dravid. The duo shared a record partnership for the 2nd wicket against New Zealand in Taunton.

The partnership of 331 runs was achieved in just 46.2 overs at Hyderabad against New Zealand way back in 1999. The partnership ended at the fall of Rahul Dravid who was batting on 153 runs. Tendulkar scored 183 runs in the match. India went on to win the match comfortably.

2. Shai Hope & J Campbell – 365 vs Ireland

John Campbell and Shai Hope created history during the ODI encounter between West Indies and Ireland in Dublin as the Windies duo added a record 365 runs for the opening wicket. It was also the first time in ODI format of the game that both openers have reached 150-mark in the partnership.

They surpassed the previous record of 304 runs created by Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman in 2018. Hope was first to his century while Campbell quickly followed to him to a hundred — his first in international cricket. They were both dismissed in the 48th over. Campbell scored 179 off 137 balls while Hope scored 170 off 152 balls.

1. Chris Gayle – Marlon Samuels – 372 vs Zimbabwe

This is the highest partnership on this list as the two batsmen took charge when the score was zero and remained until the end breaking numerous records till the end. Chris Gayle went berserk as he smashed 215 off 147 balls and became the fastest player to score an ODI double hundred as well as the highest partnership till date.

Gayle went on to hit 16 sixes and 10 fours in his 147-ball 215. He was out on the final ball of the innings. Samuels scored 22 runs off the penultimate over and hit a six off the first ball of the last over to finish with an unbeaten 133 off 156 balls. However, Zimbabwe wasn’t bad as they go all out for 289 in 44.3 overs chasing 363.
