India’s first-choice Test wicket-keeper, Wriddhiman Saha failed to make the cut for the first three Test match against England commencing from August 1 at Edgbaston.

Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik and uncapped gloveman Rishabh Pant made into the 18-member Test squad. There were speculations that Saha missed the tour owing to poor form in his recent appearances.

However, as per reports in The Indian Express, this isn’t really the case. Saha sustained a shoulder injury during the tour to South Africa, thus, he missed the last two Tests.

Saha is yet to recover fully from that particular injury and has been playing while taking injections since then.

He (Saha) has been suffering from this (shoulder injury) for the last five-odd months. This happened after he returned from South Africa. It was detected during the IPL. He played the IPL taking precautions and injections. Now it’s not responding (to injections),” a source told the paper.

The injury is preventing his range (arm-stretch). His thumb is OK,” he added.

Injury is not in anyone’s hand…and to the people who are having astrological conclusions right now regarding his future cricket…would suggest, learn to wish someone’s recovery than predicting future! Have some respect for someone who has got injured playing for the country,” he added.
