Legendary West Indies batsman Chris Gayle bid farewell to ODI cricket on a high playing a swashbuckling knock of 72 runs in the third ODI against India at the Port of Spain in Trinidad. He along with Evin Lewis games the host a brisk start as they look to end the series in a draw.
Gayle finishes on a high
West Indies came into this game with 1-0 and their best man Chirs Gayle gave the perfect start to avoid another series defeat. Jason Holder won the toss and opted to bat first on a flat deck in Trinidad, and his openers did justice to his decision. Bhuvneshwar Kumar made a steady start, but once Gayle broke the shackles taking Mohammed Shami for a six in the second over, there was no stopping him. Lewis also joined the party as they made merry of the Indian bowling taking them to cleaners.

Chris Gayle, in particular, was the dangerous of the two. He brought his fifty in style, hitting young Khaleel Ahmed for a six. Lewis followed the suit too and struck five fours and three sixes in his 29-ball 41-run knock. But leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal drew the first blood getting the better of Lewis. The Universe Boss continued with his onslaught before Khaleel came back to put a halt on the free flow of runs. Skipper Virat Kohli grabbed a stunning catch as the West Indies stalwart returned for 71 runs with the whole stadium giving a standing ovation. The entire Indian team also rushed towards Gayle, and Kohli even did his typical jig with Gayle before seeing him off the field.
Meanwhile, Chris Gayle signed off as West Indies’ highest run-scorer in the ODI format as he overtook Brian Lara in the last match. He also has played the most number of ODIs for his country – 301, a commemorative jersey he wore in his last game. An entertainer in its truest form, Gayle will forever be in the heart of the cricket lovers.
