Yet another rising star, Fakhar Zaman is the man, who is grabbing all the limelight for his willow show. Before Sunday’s (July 22) match, the southpaw required just 20 runs to become the fastest to reach 1,000-run mark in One-day International history.

After winning the toss owing to a dead rubber, Pakistan decided to bat first against Zimbabwe. It is the fifth and final ODI of the five-matches series.

Sarfraz Ahmed-led Men in Green already had the upper hand on the Zimbabwean with an unassailable lead of 4-0, and they will be hoping to convert it into 5-0.

The young gun broke the record of Sir Viv Richards to score fastest thousand runs. Zaman has become the quickest batsmen in history to scale 1,000 runs in the 50-over fold.

He’s reached the milestone in only 18 innings – the previous best was 21 innings registered respectively by Kevin Pietersen, Sir Viv Richards, Jonathan Trott, Quinton de Kock and Babar Azam. However, Virat Kohli achieved the feat in 24 innings.

Records held by the duo:

Zaman along with Imam-ul-Haq have made 549 runs so far. Need 41 more to become the first pair with most runs in a five-match series.

Besides this, the duo slammed many other records in the fourth ODI against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

The duo also held the new opening partnership beating 286 of Upal Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya which they amassed in 2006 at Leeds against Three Lions.

Pakistan achieved their highest score in the ODI history, and Zaman joins the elite 200-run club. He became the first Pakistani to score 200 runs and only the second left-hand batsman after Windies Chris Gayle.

His series so far:

Zaman scored at the whopping average of 430 so far in the ongoing series. His figures in the series can be read as 60, 117*, 43*, 210*, 25*.

Known for his pyrotechnics Zaman also surpassed Saeed Anwar’s 194 which came against India in Chennai. He took just 17 ODIs for his double ton which is least by any in the top-flight cricket.
