In a shocking turn of events, India got wrapped on 92 in the Hamilton ODI; courtesy a fantastic bowling spell of 5/21 by Trent Boult. Meanwhile, in the absence of regular skipper, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma led the team. He made a couple of changes, as Shubman Gill made his debut while Khaleel Ahmed returned. Kane Williamson, the NZ captain who didn’t taste victory in the previous three games, asked the Indians to bat first. What happened later left the cricketing world in disbelief. However, the hosts chased the target with eight wickets in hand.
Brilliant ‘Boult’ had India on the floor
Trent Boult is a dangerous bowler in the home conditions; the world knows, but no one had an idea he would return to his absolute best on Thursday. After getting the openers, Dhawan and Rohit cheaply, the NZ left-arm fast bowler broke India’s middle-order. He along with Colin de Grandhomme shared eight wickets; as at one stage, they reduced India to 40 for seven. Meanwhile, with no Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni in the lineup, the middle-order got tested and exposed eventually.

Also, Shubman Gill, the debutant, managed only nine off 21, hitting one boundary. His stay at the crease was cut short by Boult; who took two return catches off his bowling in the match. Though Hardik Pandya scored 16 off 20 balls, later on, it was Yuzvendra Chahal who was India’s highest-scorer with 18 runs to his name. However, in 30.5 overs, the India National Cricket Team got all out on 92, their second-lowest total against New Zealand in the ODIs.
Bhuvneshwar brought some relief in the camp
India’s frontline bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, got two wickets early in the game to keep India’s hope alive. Though Guptill smashed him for a six off his first ball, Bhuvi had the last laugh three balls later. Not only this, but he had also troubled Williamson, eventually getting his wicket on 11.
However, the Indian side couldn’t take any further wicket, as New Zealand won the game by eight wickets.
Here is how the Twitter reacted –
This spell from Trent Boult is, in one word, sensational. What a bowler!
