The second of Super Saturday kicked off with table-toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad hosting Kolkata Knight Riders at their fortress in Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Kolkata Knight Riders had their task cut out before they faced the table-toppers in a must-win situation, for the survival in the tournament.

Over the course of the tournament, Hyderabad presented slow-turners, which made run-making difficult. To everyone’s surprise, and DK especially, who claimed the pitch to be similar to the old Kolkata wicket, the surface turned out to be a belter.

Shikhar Dhawan and Shreevats Goswami started off the proceeding for Sunrisers with their individual fireworks. The two elegant-yet-aggressive southpaws added 79 in no time, to lay a solid foundation for their team.

Goswami scored a breezy 36 while Dhawan brought up his 32nd IPL fifty. Meanwhile, captain Kane Williamson snatched the Orange Cap from KL Rahul with his quickfire 36.

It was KKR’s dismal ground fielding and dropped catches, which was the talk of the Twitterati town. Also, the man in focus was the 11-crore man Manish Pandey who played a relatively sluggish knock on a belter of a pitch.

That said, after a loose performance from KKR on the field, Dinesh Karthik marshalled his troops brilliantly to make a comeback at the back end. DK’s men took wickets in clumps in the final few overs to restrict the hosts to 172.
