Former Indian player Mohammad Kaif has lauded New Zealand players for their spirit of cricket after their Under-19 World Cup match with West Indies.
Playing in the quarterfinal, both teams put up a great show, however, the match saw a beautiful moment of sportsmanship which has been creating headlines. New Zealand players helped a West Indian batsman Kirk McKenzie get off the field after getting injured.
Naturally, the incident caught on camera has been melting hearts of all cricket fans including former Indian player Kaif.
Mohammad Kaif hails New Zealand players’ spirit of cricket in U-19 World Cup 2020 game:
New Zealand players Jesse Tashkoff and Joseph Field helped the West Indies batsman McKenzie go off the field after he was dismissed. The batsman suffered cramps and eventually found it difficult to walk, so then the Kiwis players carried him off the field.
The spirit of cricket showed by the New Zealand player was exceptional, and their efforts are now being lauded by various greats of the game including Indian legend Kaif. Appreciating the young players’ spirit, Kaif also called New Zealand as ‘the most loved cricket team’ on Twitter.
He wrote, “Mastery begins with humility. The legacy being so beautifully carried forward by the next generation of New Zealand stars. There is a reason why they are the most loved team of our times.”
