UAE, Ireland Qualify For ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022

United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ireland have qualified for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 by winning their respective semi-finals in Oman on Tuesday, 22 February, while earlier in the day, Canada and Bahrain registered wins in play-offs.

The T20 World Cup 2022 will be played in Australia from 16 October – 13 November 2022. Six venues across Australia will host the matches in the tournament- Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. The semi-finals would take place in Sydney Cricket Ground and Adelaide Oval, and the final taking place in Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Defending champions Australia has already qualified being the hosts, while Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa qualified because of their rankings in the T20I format.

Ireland Thumps Oman To Qualify For The T20 World Cup 2022 In Australia

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) ended Nepal’s three-match winning streak with a 68-run victory while Ireland beat Oman by 56 runs. At the Oman Academy ground 1, UAE exhibited a clinical performance to reach the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup for the second time. For Ireland, the only Full Member nation in Qualifier A, it will be their seventh appearance at the worldwide centerpiece event.

The two winning teams took the 13th and 14th spots for the tournament in Australia later this year, with the last two places to be decided at the Qualifier B in July.

In the last game against Oman, Ireland made a shaky start as they lost both their opening batsmen in a matter of 17 balls while adding just 19 odd runs. George Delany (47) and Harry Tector (35) stabilized the innings for the Irish by making a 90+ runs partnership for the 3rd wicket. Andy McBrine’s 36 runs in 21 balls with help of 3 boundaries and 2 sixes helped Ireland make 165/7.

Oman never looked in the chase, finishing on 109 with Shoaib Khan top-scoring with 30. Simi Singh took 3/20, while Josh Little, Craig Young and Andy McBrine picked two wickets each.

United Arab Emirates Beats Nepal To Make It Into The T20 World Cup 2022 In Australia

On the other hand, UAE stopped Nepal’s winning chariot as after batting first, they put on 175/7 with opener Muhammad Waseem making 70 and Vritiya Aravind making 46.  Jitendra Mukhiya and Abinash Bohara picked three wickets each.

In reply, Junaid Siddique’s three wickets at the top jolted Nepal batting, while Ahmed Raza did the rest with 5/19 as Nepal crumbled to 107, losing by 68 runs.

Ireland and UAE will face each other in the finals on Thursday, February 24.
