USA To Start Their ODI Campaign With An Aim To Play ICC World Cup 2023

The first ODI for the USA on their home soil set to be played on Friday against Papua New Guinea. It is going to be a landmark moment for the country, as they got the standing after waiting for almost 175 years when they last played against Canada at Manhatten.

The six-match series is part of the qualifying tournaments for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. The three participating teams will each play four matches in the space of 11 days, all in Fort Lauderdale from September 13 to September 23.

The match at Lauderhill’s Central Broward Regional Park is a portion of a tri-series with Namibia, and additionally, a seven-team competitor which is willing to get rewarded with berths within the final round of qualifiers for the 2023 World Cup in India.

The League 2 will witness seven teams — Namibia, Nepal, Oman, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Scotland, UAE and the USA — contesting in 126 One Day Internationals (ODIs), to be played across 21 tri-series.

After the completion of 21 tri-series, the top three teams will confirm their places in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2022. The bottom four teams will drop into the Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-Off 2022 thus having a chance to meet the other teams in challenger League A and B.

The Americans have played three ODIs, including two at the 2004 Champions Trophy, and lost all of them. Despite playing their first ODI back in 1844, the US were granted ODI status in April and will play nine tri-series over the next two years.

“The team have worked really hard after our challenging journey through ICC World Cricket League Division 3 and Division 2,” US captain Saurabh Netravalka told the International Cricket Council. ”We are all really looking forward to giving it our best shot at our first ever home ODI series and the first ODI ever to be played in the USA”

“To be part of this is quite something … We hope our efforts will inspire the continued growth and development of cricket in the United States. And to start our journey in our aim to qualify for the ICC men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.”

In total, 36 ODI matches set to take place among USA, PNG and Namibia for the next two and a half years. Each match will have 8 points at the stake. Meanwhile, the officials announced that all the matches will be played n Fort Lauderdale.
