Rohit Sharma, on Sunday, scored one of his finest tons to power India to a thumping win over Pakistan in the 2019 World Cup. With Shikhar Dhawan out of the game due to injury, the onus was on Rohit Sharma to deliver and as expected he did not disappoint. The right-handed batsman looked in ominous touch right from the word go.

India needed a solid start after Pakistan won the toss and asked them to bat first in overcast condition. Rohit Sharma rose to the occasion and went on to score his second century of the World Cup. Opening the innings with KL Rahul who scored 57, Rohit Sharma started playing his shots right from the word go. He added 136 runs with Rahul before the latter departed. The right-handed batsman then added 98 runs with skipper Virat Kohli before falling for 140.

His 140-run knock is the highest score by an individual in an India-Pakistan World Cup game. Prior to this, Virat Kohli’s 107 was the highest score by a player in this famous fixture. India, meanwhile, piled up 336 for 5 in their stipulated 50 overs.

In reply, Pakistan started disastrously by losing Imam-ul-Haq cheaply. Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam then revived their hopes by taking the score past the 100-run mark. However, once Kuldeep castled Babar, there was no looking back. Pakistan soon slipped from 117 for 1 to 129 for 5. They eventually finished their innings on 212 for 6 in the rain-affected match. They lost the game by 89 runs (DLS method).
