Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has achieved a lot in his illustrious career. He led the Indian team to their second ODI World Cup title in 2011 at Wankhede, after a prolonged gap of 28 years. The wicketkeeper-batsman Dhoni played a captain’s knock in the final and helped India edge past Sri Lanka in a tricky finale.

Under Dhoni’s leadership, India won the 2007 T20I World Cup as well as the Champions Trophy in 2013.

Apart from on-field successes, fame and money, the 38-year-old has earned an almost god-like status in India. He has fans almost in every corner of the world.

Former Indian skipper and BCCI selector Mohinder Amarnath does not enjoy a good rapport with MS Dhoni. That is because, in 2011, India had lost two series against England and Australia by a heavy margin, under Dhoni’s captaincy. After this, Amarnath and other selectors had tried to replace the 38-year-old as skipper of the team.

However, instead of Dhoni, the then BCCI president N Srinivasan sacked Amarnath.

In an earlier interview with CNN-IBN, the latter made a shocking revelation regarding the former.

“The Board President did not approve the unanimous decision to replace Mahendra Singh Dhoni,” Amarnath was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo, and thus till date, he is regarded as one the critics of Dhoni.

4) Sanjay Manjrekar

Former cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has targetted MS Dhoni on various occasions. Apart from his row with Ravindra Jadeja, Manjrekar has also had a tiff with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper.

The 54-year-old commentator has, on numerous occasions, tweeted against Dhoni. Ahead of the 2019 World Cup, Manjrekar criticised the former Indian skipper for playing slow and being selfish.

In an earlier interview with PTI, Manjrekar said, “It is really unfair that the focus is only on Dhoni because, if, at this stage of his career also, there aren’t other batsmen around who can help India win matches, then it is not healthy (sign) for Indian cricket.”

3) Harsh Goenka

Harsh Goenka, brother of Sanjiv Goenka, who owned Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit Rising Pune Supergiants has also had animosity with MS Dhoni in the past. Harsh was on the receiving end of the wrath of Dhoni’s fans after one of his tweets caused a big controversy.

Actually the IPL franchise decided to name Steven Smith as the skipper in place of Dhoni. Smith led the Pune-based team, to a win in the very first match after being named as the captain. Goenka then tweeted against the Indian skipper and criticised him on Twitter.

“Smith proved who is the captain of the jungle. Overshadows Dhoni completely. Captains innings. Great move to appoint him as captain,” read Goenka’s tweet.

2) Ajit Agarkar

Former Indian player Ajit Agarkar is among the most active critics of MS Dhoni. Agarkar is known to make hateful remarks towards the 38-year-old as he believes his career came to an abrupt end because of Dhoni.

Agarkar has on plenty of occasions, spoken against the former Indian skipper. In 2017, he gave a controversial interview and called for the selectors – to replace Dhoni in the national team.

“I think India must now look at other options, at least in T20Is. In one-day cricket, they seem to be happy with the role that he is playing. When you were the captain of the side, it was different. But just as a batsman, will India miss him, I don’t think so. In T20 cricket, it is lot easier to make that transition as there is lot of experience in that team apart from MS Dhoni now,” Agarkar told ESPNcricinfo in an interview in 2017.

1) Yograj Singh

MS Dhoni’s biggest critic will always be Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh, who blamed the Indian skipper for Yuvraj’s exclusion from India’s 2015 ODI World Cup squad.

In a scathing rant against Dhoni earlier, Yograj compared the 38-year-old to ‘Raavan’ in an older interview whilst also adding that one day he will be penniless.

“Dhoni is arrogant. The way Ravana’s proud came to an end, Dhoni will also suffer someday. He considers himself much above Ravana,” Yuvraj’s father said in August 2015. Yograj continued, “There will be a day when Dhoni will be left to beg and become penniless and would not get any favour.”
