Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant had a forgettable experience with the bat on Wednesday as he was dismissed for an embarrassing 3-ball duck by the relentless pacer, Kagiso Rabada.
Pant had just walked out after a stunning counterattack from Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, who put the team in a fabulous position. He had to shoulder some responsibility and play for the team but the 24-year-old left-hander was undone by the spicy pitch in Johannesburg.
Facing his second ball, Pant received a snorter which brushed his collarbone. He seemed rattled by the delivery. Rassie van der Dussen, standing at short leg, also had a few words to say to the youngster, trying to get him to go big. And go big he did, albeit in poor fashion.
The very next delivery, Pant danced down the track and tried to whack Rabada out of the Wanderers but only managed a thin edge that was gobbled up by Kyle Verreyne. As expected, he was extremely displeased with his dismissal and smashed his bat on the wall on the way back to the pavilion.

Having played against the likes of Australia with a much calmer head, a lot more was expected from Pant. However, the occasion got too big for him and he couldn’t keep a cool mind, gifting his wicket away to bring South Africa right back into the match.
At Lunch, India was 188/6, having scored 103 runs while losing four wickets in the morning session. They have a lead of 161 on the board with Shardul Thakur and Hanuma Vihari at the crease.
