Deepak Chahar’s spell in the powerplay has left Kolkata Knight Riders in absolute tatters in their ongoing run-chase of 221 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Chahar landed back-to-back daddy blows on Kolkata Knight Riders in his third over as he claimed their skipper Eoin Morgan before following it up with the wicket of pinch-hitter Sunil Narine.
Sunil Narine was sent ahead of Andre Russell to tonk a few and he started in the same fashion as the off-spinning all-rounder flayed the swing bowler past the extra-cover region for a four.
But Deepak Chahar eventually had the last laugh as Narine holed out in an attempt to an encore on the very next delivery thanks to a brilliant catch from Ravindra Jadeja.
Narine stayed leg-side of the ball, as he normally does, and flayed it towards covers. The only issue on this occasion was that Ravindra Jadeja flew to his right to pull off an excellent grab.
Jadeja’s grab gave Deepak Chahar his 2nd four-wicket-haul of the season. The right-hander, who started off by dismissing Shubman Gill for a golden duck, troubled Eoin Morgan with classical swing bowling, and in the end, he eventually induced an outside edge.
KKR lost their fifth wicket in the very next over in the form of Rahul Tripathi and MS Dhoni, in an attempt to go for the kill, continued with Chahar but the right-hander came in for some hammering in his final six balls as Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik smoked him for a couple of sixes.
