Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah and South African bowler Marco Jansen got involved in a heated exchange in the second session of play on Day 3 of the Johannesburg Test.
The incident occurred in the afternoon session when Bumrah was facing Jansen. Having set a completely defensive field, Jansen opted to bowl a flurry of bouncers at the tail-ender. He fired in four in a row of which three of them hit Bumrah on his right shoulder.
Although playing just his second Test, Jansen continuously stared at Bumrah and the latter didn’t hold back. Usually a calm head on the shoulders, Bumrah got fired up and pointed towards Jansen, asking him to come for a quick chat on the pitch.
The on-field umpire had to rush in between the two and prevent any altercation. The two did exchange a few words and soon after, Bumrah even managed to smack a six off Kagiso Rabada. The incident is quite similar to the one at Lord’s, where India managed to win the Test with a fired-up bowling attack.

Earlier, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane stitched a vital 111-run partnership for the third wicket. Both the batters reached their fifties before being dismissed but they had put India in a good position. Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, and Hanuma Vihari then chipped in with cameos to take India’s lead past 200.
With a fragile batting lineup, one of the best bowling attacks in the world, and a spicy Johannesburg pitch in the equation, chasing a target above 200 is quite tough and the hosts will have to put in a monumental effort to chase it down.
