It’s not a good idea to charge against someone like Kyle Jamieson, and Indian opener Shubman Gill found that out in the nastiest way possible as he got stuck on his helmet by a delivery that spitted off from a short of good length.
Shubman Gill was constantly charging Kyle Jamieson during the 17th over of Indian innings when the lanky Kiwi pacer decided to peg him back.
It all happened on the 5th ball of the over when Jamieson banged it short and the ball proceeded to spit off short of good length, cramping the young opener for the room.
The ball smashed into the lid of Shubman Gill’s helmet and one could hear the impact from far away. Mohammed Siraj and the Indian medical staff immediately rushed on the field to check on Gill.
That said, India would be happy with the kind of start that they have got after having lost the toss on an overcast morning in Southampton.
Both the openers in Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have looked fairly confident in their approach thus far against a Kiwi pace bowling attack that looked below par in the first 20 overs.
The Indians have been quite proactive in their foot movement and anything that has been pitched short or too full by the New Zealand seamers has been dealt with disdain.
However, at the time of writing, New Zealand finally broke the 62-run-stand with Rohit Sharma (34) edging a fullish length delivery from Kyle Jamieson straight to the slip cordon.
